What is PTA Tax?
The PTA tax is a mandatory government levy imposed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on all imported mobile phones. Under PTA regulations, any smartphone used on a Pakistani SIM card for more than 60 days must be registered through the DIRBS (Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System) portal โ and the applicable duty must be paid in full.
Failure to register results in permanent network blocking. The tax applies to every imported brand and model without exception, whether the phone was brought in by a traveler, purchased online from abroad, or received as a gift from overseas.
