Pakistan Motor Vehicle Tax Calculator
Province-specific token tax, registration fees & transfer estimates — FY 2026-27
What the vehicle tax calculator covers
Depending on the jurisdiction and vehicle category, the calculator can estimate:
- Annual or lifetime provincial token tax
- New-vehicle registration fee
- Federal advance tax associated with new registration
- Vehicle ownership-transfer fee
- Applicable Sindh motor-vehicle luxury tax
- Punjab's qualifying annual token-tax rebate
- Commercial token tax based on weight, seating capacity, CC or subtype
These charges are not interchangeable. Token tax relates to keeping a registered vehicle in use, registration fees generally apply at first registration, and transfer fees apply when ownership changes.
How to use the token tax calculator
- Select the province or Islamabad where the vehicle is registered.
- Choose Car, Motorcycle, Commercial or the applicable vehicle category.
- Enter the exact engine capacity shown on the registration record.
- Add the invoice or assessed value when the selected rate is value-based.
- Enter the vehicle's age from its first registration in Pakistan.
- For a commercial vehicle, select its subtype and enter the requested weight or seating capacity.
- Choose local or imported origin and the applicable FBR filer status where requested.
- Select Calculate Vehicle Tax and review each result tab separately.
Do not enter laden weight or seats in the CC field. The updated commercial calculator provides separate inputs because provincial commercial schedules use different calculation bases.
Token tax, registration fee and advance tax explained
Provincial token tax
Token tax is imposed under provincial or territorial motor-vehicle law. It can be annual, lifetime, fixed, value-based, weight-based or charged per seat. Two otherwise similar vehicles may therefore produce different results when registered in different jurisdictions.
Registration fee
The registration fee normally applies when a vehicle is first registered. It may be a percentage of invoice value or a fixed amount. It is separate from token tax and any federal advance tax.
Federal advance tax
Advance tax under section 231B of the Income Tax Ordinance may be collected in connection with new vehicle registration. Rates can differ for filers and non-filers. The calculator does not apply this vehicle advance tax to motorcycles or auto-rickshaws, in line with FBR's published clarification.
Luxury tax
A charge should be described as luxury tax only where an applicable authority publishes it as such. The calculator includes Sindh's published motor-vehicle luxury-tax schedule. It does not relabel Punjab Capital Value Tax or another levy as “luxury tax.”
Punjab token tax calculator
Punjab's FY 2026–27 motor-car schedule uses lifetime, fixed annual and value-based treatment depending on the exact engine capacity.
| Private car | Punjab token-tax treatment |
|---|---|
| Up to 1000cc | PKR 20,000 lifetime |
| 1001–1199cc | 0.3% of invoice price annually |
| 1200–1300cc | PKR 1,800 annually |
| 1301–1500cc | PKR 6,000 annually |
| 1501–2000cc | PKR 9,000 annually |
| Above 2000cc | 0.4% of invoice price annually |
Boundary values matter: exactly 1300cc is PKR 1,800, while 1301cc enters the PKR 6,000 bracket. Exactly 1500cc is PKR 6,000, and exactly 2000cc is PKR 9,000.
Punjab has announced a 10% rebate for qualifying full-year annual token-tax payments made by 31 August 2026. The official assessment determines whether the rebate applies; it should not automatically be deducted from registration fees, lifetime tax, arrears or other charges.
For more detail, see the Punjab token tax calculator and CC-wise guide after its FY 2026–27 update.
1300cc token tax in Punjab
Punjab Excise lists PKR 1,800 annual token tax for a car officially recorded as exactly 1300cc. A qualifying 10% rebate would reduce the token-only amount to PKR 1,620.
The price of an exactly 1300cc car does not change that fixed provincial token amount. Vehicle value can still affect registration fees or federal tax in a relevant transaction.
Islamabad token tax calculator
The federal Finance Act 2026 replaced the Islamabad Capital Territory private-vehicle token schedule from 1 July 2026:
| Private car | ICT token-tax treatment |
|---|---|
| Up to 1000cc | PKR 20,000 lifetime |
| 1001–2000cc | 0.25% of invoice value annually |
| Above 2000cc | 0.35% of invoice value annually |
When calculating an Islamabad vehicle registration estimate, enter the invoice value for percentage-based charges. ICT Administration describes the payable components as registration fee, advance tax, token tax, income tax and—for a commercial vehicle—professional tax. The PAK or City Islamabad application should be used for the final assessment.
Sindh token tax and luxury tax
Sindh publishes separate schedules for motorcycles, private cars, registration, transfer and motor-vehicle luxury tax. Vehicle age can affect the token treatment of an older Sindh-registered car, so the same CC does not always produce the same result for every registration year.
The published luxury-tax schedule applies at registration to specified locally manufactured or imported motor cars from 1500cc upward. Origin and exact engine capacity must therefore be entered correctly.
TaxToday does not publish an unsupported annual commercial token estimate for Sindh. When a complete current commercial schedule is not available from the public official material, the calculator displays “Official commercial token-tax assessment required from Sindh Excise.” Registration and transfer estimates can still be shown where the corresponding official fee is supported.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) token tax
The operative Khyber Pakhtunkhwa schedule provides annual private-car brackets and a lifetime motorcycle amount. Commercial goods vehicles are calculated by unladen or maximum laden weight, while passenger vehicles can be charged as a fixed amount or per seat depending on capacity.
The calculator asks for those commercial specifications instead of attempting to determine a truck or bus tax from engine capacity alone.
Balochistan vehicle token tax
Balochistan's official schedule effective from 1 July 2025 includes age-based annual and lifetime options for several private-car brackets. It also publishes specific commercial treatment for rickshaws, tractors, pickups, trucks, tankers, trailers, buses and minibuses.
Examples include an annual fixed amount for a pickup or delivery van, weight brackets for trucks and tankers, and per-seat rates for buses. Agricultural tractors are treated differently from tractors with a trolley or tanker.
Commercial vehicle token tax calculator
There is no single “commercial vehicle tax” amount for all Pakistan. The updated calculator distinguishes between:
- Goods and loading vehicles
- Passenger buses and minibuses
- Motor cabs and taxis
- Rickshaws
- Commercial tractors
- Tractors with a trolley or tanker
- Pickups and delivery vans
- Trucks, oil tankers and trailers
The calculation may require maximum laden weight, unladen weight, taxable seating capacity, engine capacity, air-conditioning class or an attached trailer. Rates and classification rules differ by jurisdiction.
For passenger calculations, enter the taxable seating capacity requested by the form. A published schedule may exclude the driver's or conductor's seat, so check the registration document and official category before relying on the estimate.
Vehicle transfer fee calculator
Transfer fees are province-specific. Select the vehicle's existing registration jurisdiction before viewing the transfer result. A Punjab transfer fee must not be reused for a Sindh, Islamabad, KPK or Balochistan transaction.
The final transfer cost may also require cleared token-tax arrears, biometric verification, a smart card, valid insurance or other documents. Verify outstanding dues before purchasing a used vehicle.
Why filer status can change a result
Filer status affects applicable federal advance or income-tax rates; it does not automatically create two different provincial token-tax rates. A person appearing on FBR's Active Taxpayers List generally receives the applicable filer rate, while a person outside it may face a higher federal collection.
Check the official Active Taxpayers List before relying on the selected status. Filing a return does not necessarily mean the official list has already updated.
Charges that may not appear in the estimate
The calculator does not have access to an owner's live government record. An official challan may therefore include:
- Token-tax arrears from an earlier period
- Late-payment penalty or default surcharge
- Professional or income tax
- Capital Value Tax where applicable
- Smart-card and number-plate charges
- Biometric-verification costs
- Mandatory insurance requirements
- Hire-purchase endorsement or deletion fee
- Choice or premium registration-number fee
- Alteration, duplicate-document or re-registration fee
- Route, fitness or permit-related charges
Use the result for planning—not as proof that every government liability has been paid.
How to verify and pay vehicle tax online
Punjab
Use ePay Punjab or the services linked by Punjab Excise. Generate the official PSID, review the assessment and pay through a supported channel.
Sindh
Use the official Sindh Excise tax portal or its authorized e-payment application. The system may request current owner, vehicle and insurance information.
Islamabad
Use the official PAK/City Islamabad application or the online services published by Islamabad Excise. Do not give government-login credentials to an unaffiliated calculator website.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan
Use the payment or verification facility linked from the relevant provincial Excise website. Where an online assessment is unavailable for the selected commercial category, contact the motor-registration authority with the vehicle specifications.
Frequently asked questions
Is token tax the same throughout Pakistan?
No. Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan publish different schedules. Registration jurisdiction, vehicle category, CC, value, age, weight and seats can all affect the amount.
What is the token tax for a 1300cc car in Punjab?
The FY 2026–27 Punjab schedule lists PKR 1,800 annually for a car recorded as exactly 1300cc. Exactly 1301cc enters the PKR 6,000 annual bracket.
Why does the calculator request vehicle value?
Some token-tax, registration and federal advance-tax rates are percentages of invoice or assessed value. Without that value, the calculator cannot produce a meaningful percentage-based estimate.
Does a non-filer always pay higher annual token tax?
Not necessarily. Filer status mainly changes relevant federal advance or income-tax amounts. The underlying provincial token rate may remain the same.
Can the calculator determine truck tax from engine CC?
Generally no. Commercial goods-vehicle tax is often based on laden or unladen weight. Use the commercial fields and the specifications recorded for the vehicle.
Why is there no Sindh commercial annual token estimate?
TaxToday could not verify a complete current commercial annual schedule from Sindh's publicly available official material. The tool therefore directs users to an official Sindh Excise assessment instead of displaying an unsupported amount.
Does the calculator include outstanding arrears?
No. It cannot access a live government record. Only the relevant Excise system can display vehicle-specific arrears, penalties and the final payable amount.
Is the calculated result an official challan?
No. TaxToday is an independent information service. Only a government authority or its authorized platform can issue the official assessment and payment reference.
Methodology and editorial review
TaxToday separates provincial token tax, registration fees, transfer charges, federal advance tax and luxury tax in its data model. Commercial slabs store their real calculation basis—such as weight or seats—rather than disguising those values as engine CC.
The dataset is reviewed when an authority publishes a relevant finance act, notification or revised schedule. Where a current official rate cannot be verified, the calculator returns a limitation notice instead of estimating from an unofficial table.
