PM Orders Urgent Steps to Secure Fuel Supply Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the federal petroleum ministry to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply across Pakistan and prepare an emergency response plan amid rising regional tensions and global oil market uncertainty.

During a high-level review meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister instructed authorities to closely monitor petrol and diesel availability and remove any disruptions in the supply chain. Officials briefed the meeting that the country currently holds adequate petroleum stocks, but the government remains alert to possible supply shocks.

Government Orders Action Against Hoarding

The prime minister also ordered strict action against hoarding and artificial shortages of petroleum products. Authorities warned that petrol pumps involved in creating shortages could face closure and legal action.

Sharif directed petroleum companies and distributors to ensure fuel is sold strictly at government-approved prices and to maintain transparency in the distribution system.

Officials say enforcement teams will increase inspections at fuel stations to prevent price manipulation or hoarding.

Fuel Monitoring System to Track Supply

The government has also decided to strengthen monitoring of fuel transportation across provinces. A digital dashboard will track the movement of petroleum products in real time, allowing authorities to quickly identify supply disruptions or suspicious stockpiling.

The prime minister instructed the petroleum minister to coordinate with provincial governments and prepare a national strategy to maintain stable fuel supplies across the country.

Global Tensions Raise Energy Concerns

Pakistan’s fuel security concerns have intensified due to the ongoing Middle East conflict, which has disrupted oil shipments and pushed global energy markets into volatility.

The government has already introduced several austerity measures to reduce fuel consumption, including restrictions on official vehicle use and temporary changes in public sector working schedules.

Government Seeks to Protect Consumers

Prime Minister Sharif said the government will continue monitoring petroleum prices and supply to protect consumers from sudden shortages or price manipulation.

Officials stressed that maintaining steady fuel availability remains critical for transportation, industry, and power generation as Pakistan navigates uncertain global energy conditions.

Authorities say further policy measures could be introduced if regional developments affect global oil supplies or shipping routes in the coming weeks.
