The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has taken a significant step forward in its ongoing digital transformation journey, formalizing a strategic partnership with Arcana Info Pvt Ltd for the deployment of a new Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) platform — a move designed to modernize the bank’s core technology infrastructure and improve service delivery across all channels.
The Partnership
A signing ceremony was held at NBP’s Head Office, with Mr. Shaikh Ausaf Ahmed, Acting Chief Technology Officer at NBP, and Mr. Amin ul Hafeez, CEO of Arcana Info Pvt Ltd, formalizing the agreement.
The ESB platform represents a foundational upgrade to how NBP’s various internal systems communicate with one another — a critical piece of infrastructure for any bank operating at national scale.
What Is an ESB and Why Does It Matter?
The ESB platform securely connects NBP’s core banking system with other applications, enabling real-time transactions, faster response times, and improved customer service across all channels. The upgrade supports the bank’s broader digital transformation agenda and modernizes its overall IT architecture.
In practical terms, this means customers interacting with NBP — whether through mobile banking, ATMs, branch counters, or online portals — will benefit from more seamless, faster, and more reliable service as the bank’s backend systems become better integrated.
What NBP’s Acting CTO Said
Commenting on the development, Acting CTO Ausaf Ahmed Shaikh said the ESB strengthens the bank’s digital foundation, improves system stability, and prepares NBP for future growth. He added that with this rollout, NBP continues building a secure, reliable, and future-ready technology environment to enhance customer experience and meet the demands of a fast-changing financial industry.
Part of a Broader Digital Push
This latest partnership is not an isolated move. NBP has been steadily scaling its digital partnerships over recent months. In early February 2026, NBP signed a separate agreement with Finnect for Merchant QR deployment, training, and support — a collaboration aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of a cashless economy and the State Bank of Pakistan’s digital payments mandate.
NBP’s approach to fintech partnerships reflects a deliberate strategy: by working with external technology providers, the bank is able to fast-track innovation, realize operational efficiencies, and enhance customer experience, while fintech partners gain regulatory experience and access to NBP’s large customer base.
NBP serves over 9 million customers through a network of more than 1,500 domestic branches and 18 overseas branches, making the reliability and integration of its technology systems a matter of national importance.
Looking Ahead
With Pakistan’s digital banking sector growing rapidly and the State Bank pushing hard for financial inclusion and cashless transactions, investments in core infrastructure like ESB platforms are becoming essential for large banks to remain competitive and compliant. NBP’s partnership with Arcana Info signals that the nation’s bank is serious about building the technological backbone needed to support that future.
