KP Launches Digital Tax Challan System in Mardan

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has launched a fully digital system for issuing Professional Tax challans in Mardan district, marking a significant step toward modernising tax administration in the province.

Officials said the initiative follows directives from Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan, who has instructed departments to improve governance and public service delivery through technology-driven reforms.

Under the supervision of Secretary Excise Khalid Ilyas, the department has replaced the manual challan process with a digital platform that allows authorities to issue tax challans electronically. The system officially begins the digitalisation of the tax collection mechanism in Mardan.

Excise and Taxation Officer Muhammad Khalid said the digital system will make tax payments easier for businesses and professionals while reducing delays and paperwork. The system also aims to improve transparency and ensure faster processing of tax records.

Officials believe the initiative will strengthen compliance and help the provincial government maintain accurate revenue data. By automating challan issuance, authorities expect to minimise human error and prevent irregularities in the tax collection process.

The move aligns with broader national efforts to expand digital tax infrastructure and improve compliance through modern payment systems and online platforms. Pakistan’s tax authorities have increasingly adopted digital solutions to widen the tax net and make payments easier for taxpayers.

Provincial authorities say similar digital initiatives may gradually expand to other districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as part of the government’s plan to strengthen revenue administration and streamline tax services for citizens.
