Review update — 2 October 2026
The original article covered 2025-26. Its combined rate tables, penalty amounts and blanket exemption statements were not sufficiently sourced to use as a current payment guide. This revision retains the practical payment and recordkeeping guidance and directs readers to the official calculation for their vehicle. The original article remains preserved in our editorial revision record.
Check the official demand before paying
Start with Punjab Excise’s motor-vehicle tax page and its official motor-vehicle calculator. Use ePay Punjab to obtain the vehicle-specific demand and payment reference. A general table cannot resolve arrears, vehicle-record errors, special categories or an exemption claim.
Separate the charges
Provincial motor-vehicle tax and federal income-tax withholding are different charges. Registration fees, transfer fees and unpaid dues may also appear in a vehicle transaction. Compare the individual items rather than treating a total as a single token-tax rate. For selected federal withholding provisions, consult the sourced Tax Year 2027 rate card, particularly section 234, and verify the full law and exceptions.
Prepare your vehicle information
- Keep the registration number and registration document ready.
- Confirm the registration province, vehicle category and engine capacity shown in the official record.
- Check the financial year and any unpaid previous period.
- Confirm invoice/value and registration-date information if the calculation depends on them.
- Review taxpayer status separately when federal withholding applies.
- Have the previous payment receipt available if an already paid amount appears as outstanding.
Payment and verification workflow
- Open the official ePay Punjab website or app through its official links.
- Select the relevant Excise service and enter the required vehicle details.
- Review the displayed vehicle identity, period and itemised dues before generating the payment reference.
- Follow the payment channels and expiry instructions shown with that reference.
- After payment, retain the bank confirmation and official receipt.
- Check that the vehicle’s outstanding amount or payment status updates. If it does not, contact the relevant official support service with your receipts.
Do not pay against a demand for a different vehicle or an unexplained period. If the registration record is missing or incorrect, use Punjab Excise’s official assistance channels rather than changing details to force a calculation.
Discounts, exemptions and late-payment charges
Punjab Excise advertised a 10% token-tax rebate through 31 August 2026. That date has passed. Check a current official notice before claiming any later discount. Do not assume an electric vehicle, older vehicle or lifetime payment is exempt from every charge: verify the exact category, period and legal basis with the authority. Late registration, unpaid annual tax and transfer-related charges should also be checked separately.
Use the TaxToday calculator as an estimate
Our motor-vehicle tax calculator can help explore a scenario. Select the correct province and inputs, then compare its result with the current official demand. Its datasets and special-case branches have not been fully certified for every 2026-27 scenario, so an estimate is not an instruction to pay that amount. Report a discrepancy through the corrections process with the relevant official source and without sending private identifiers in a public comment.
